River open for white-water rafting and kayaking usually lie well below 3000 m. Class II to IV rivers are run commercially, although commercial rafting is still in its infancy.
Best rafting season is from mid-September to late November, followed by April to mid-June. Most rivers, cannot be run between mid-June and early September because of high water level.
Popular runs are: Gilgit river, Indus River and Hunza river on the Gilgit side; and the Braldu, Upper Indus, Shigar, and Shyok rivers in Baltistan.
